With the foothills of the Artana range behind it, Sa
Colònia slopes gently down to the sea. This, with the Bay of Alcúdia
in front and the backdrop of the mountains behind frame an unforgettable
scene.
To get a taste of this meeting of sea and mountains,
nothing can beat the coast walk from Sa Colònia to Caló,
going through Ca los Camps, Es Canons and Na Clara, a marvelous inlet
with crystalline water.
Halfway along this walk, you can take another path which
leads to the Hermitage of Betlem, with fantastic views over the bay of
Alcúdia.
If you leave Sa Colònia in the other direction,
you reach S'Estanyol, the beach of Sa Canova and the stream of Na Borges.
You'll see one of the last virgin beaches of Mallorca, and it is now a
protected area of great natural beauty.

You can also visit Cala Estreta and from here walk to a series
of beautiful unspoilt coves, a paradise for photographers of plants, birdlife
and scenery. At the end of the walk you can see the cliffs of Ferrutx.
The town of Artà is really worth visiting. Walk round
the old centre and visit Sant Salvador, the magnificent Gothic parish
church. Nearby are various prehistoric sites, such as the talaiot of Ses
Paisses.
By car or coach you can go on trips to Portocristo with the
caves of Drac, to Cala Ratjada and the beach of l'Agulla, and to Cala
Millor and Sa Coma, both of which are tourist resorts with beautiful beaches.
